Film "Waterboys" presented by Embassy of Japan and Japan Commerce Association of Washington
The Japan Information & Culture Center, Embassy of Japan and the Japan Commerce Association of Washington present:

"Waterboys"

Japan Information & Culture Center auditorium

An all-boys high school swim team is flooded with new members when a beautiful young coach signs up. The boys are disappointed to learn, however, that the team practices synchronized swimming and the few die-hards who do stick it out are soon left on their own when the coach takes maternity leave. Unsure of what to do, they eventually enlist the help of a dolphin trainer, who puts them through Karate Kid-esque intensive training. But the boys do learn, and become a media sensation, putting on a show that would make Esther Williams proud.

One of the most popular feel-good movies of 2001 from Japan, Waterboys is a movie about teamwork, overcoming odds, and following your dreams, and was inspired by a documentary on an actual high school boys' synchronized swimming team. Director Shinobu Yaguchi is also known for his 2004 film Swing Girls.

In Japanese with English subtitles.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. RSVP to jiccrsvpsummer07@embjapan.org.
